title : Environmental Microbiology Type de document : printed text Auteur : Walter Reineke, Author Editeur : Berlin : Springer Spektrum Date de publication : 2023 Nombre de pages : 603p. Dimensions : 24*17 ISBN (ou autre code) : 978-3-662-66546-6 Langue : English (eng) Langue originale : English (eng) Indexation : micr Résumé : This textbook addresses global and local environmental problems and the involvement of microorganism s in their development and remediation. In particular, methodological aspects, some of them molecular genetic, for the study of microbial communities are considered. Overall, the prominent role of microorganisms in various material cycles is presented. In addition to biochemical principles for the degradation of environmental pollutants, the use of microorganisms in environmental biotechnological processes for the purification of air, water or soil as well as in environmentally friendly production processes is discussed. The book is intended for biologists with an interest in environmental microbiological issues, but also for students of process or environmental engineering, geoecology or geology, as well as students of other environmental science disciplines. For the 3rd edition, the authors have completely revised, corrected, updated and supplemented the book. The authors Professor Dr. Walter Reineke was Professor of Microbiology at the University of Wuppertal since 1982, where he was involved in teaching both the Food Chemistry and Chemistry courses. He has been retired since August 2013. Professor Dr. Michael Schlِmann was appointed Endowed Professor of Environmental Microbiology of the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt at the Technische Universitنt Bergakademie Freiberg in 1998 and has been Deputy Director of the University's Interdisciplinary Ecological Centre since 1999. This book is a translation of an original German edition. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation. title : Food Microbiology Laboratory for the Food Science Student : A Practical Approach Type de document : printed text Auteur : Cangliang Shen, Author Editeur : switzerland : Springer Date de publication : 2023 Nombre de pages : 160p. Dimensions : 25*18 ISBN (ou autre code) : 978-3-031-26196-1 Langue : English (eng) Langue originale : English (eng) Indexation : micr Résumé : This book is designed to give students an understanding of the role of microorganisms in food proces sing and preservation; the relation of microorganisms to food spoilage, foodborne illness, and intoxication; general food processing and quality control; the role of microorganisms in health promotion; and federal food processing regulations. The listed laboratory exercises are aimed to provide a hands-on-opportunity for the student to practice and observe the principles of food microbiology. Students will be able to familiarize themselves with the techniques used to research, regulate, prevent, and control the microorganisms in food and understand the function of beneficial microorganism during food manufacturing process. The second edition add 5 new chapters including “Chapter 10 -Thermal inactivation of Escherichia coli O157:H7 in mechanically tenderized beef steaks and color measurements”, “Chapter 11-Evaluate antimicrobial activity of chlorine water on apples and measurement of free chlorine concentrations”, “Chapter 12-Evaluate cross-contamination of Salmonella on tomatoes in wash water using most probable number (MPN) technique”, “Chapter 15-DNA extraction and purity determination of foodborne pathogens”, and “Chapter 16-Practice of multiplex PCR to identify bacteria in bacterial solutions”. It also includes new lab work flowcharts for Gram-staining and endospore-staining technology in Chapter 1, pour plating and spread plating in Chapter 3, Enterotube II in Chapter 9, and Kirby Beau test procedure in Chapter 20. It includes a new sample of syllabus with the hybrid teaching of both lecture and lab sections in one course, which will assist junior faculty/instructors to develop similar lecture and lab courses.
