title : Introduction to Laser-Plasma Interactions : Graduate Texts in Physics Type de document : printed text Auteur : Pierre Michel, Author Editeur : london : Springer Date de publication : 2023 Nombre de pages : 416p. Dimensions : 24*17 ISBN (ou autre code) : 978-3-031-23423-1 Langue : English (eng) Langue originale : English (eng) Indexation : phy Résumé : This textbook provides a comprehensive introduction to the physics of laser-plasma interactions (LPI ), based on a graduate course taught by the author. The emphasis is on high-energy-density physics (HEDP) and inertial confinement fusion (ICF), with a comprehensive description of the propagation, absorption, nonlinear effects and parametric instabilities of high energy lasers in plasmas. The recent demonstration of a burning plasma on the verge of nuclear fusion ignition at the National Ignition Facility in Livermore, California, has marked the beginning of a new era of ICF and fusion research. These new developments make LPI more relevant than ever, and the resulting influx of new scientists necessitates new pedagogical material on the subject. In contrast to the classical textbooks on LPI, this book provides a complete description of all wave-coupling instabilities in unmagnetized plasmas in the kinetic as well as fluid pictures, and includes a comprehensive description of the optical smoothing techniques used on high-power lasers and their impact on laser-plasma instabilities. It summarizes all the key developments from the 1970s to the present day in view of the current state of LPI and ICF research; it provides a derivation of the key LPI metrics and formulas from first principles, and connects the theory to experimental observables. With exercises and plenty of illustrations, this book is ideal as a textbook for a course on laser-plasma interactions or as a supplementary text for graduate introductory plasma physics course. Students and researchers will also find it to be an invaluable reference and self-study resource. title : Physics with Excel and Python : Using the Same Data Structure : Volume I: Basics, Exercises and Tasks Type de document : printed text Auteur : Dieter Mergel, Author Editeur : london : Springer Date de publication : 2022 Nombre de pages : 482p. Dimensions : 24*17 ISBN (ou autre code) : 978-3-030-82324-5 Langue : English (eng) Langue originale : English (eng) Indexation : phy Résumé : This book is intended to serve as a basic introduction to scientific computing by treating problems from various areas of physics - mechanics, optics, acoustics, and statistical reasoning in the context of the evaluation of measurements. After working through these examples, students are able to independently work on physical problems that they encounter during their studies. For every exercise, the author introduces the physical problem together with a data structure that serves as an interface to programming in Excel and Python. When a solution is achieved in one application, it can easily be translated into the other one and presumably any other platform for scientific computing. This is possible because the basic techniques of vector and matrix calculation and array broadcasting are also achieved with spreadsheet techniques, and logical queries and for-loops operate on spreadsheets from simple Visual Basic macros. So, starting to learn scientific calculation with Excel, e.g., at High School, is a targeted road to scientific computing. The primary target groups of this book are students with a major or minor subject in physics, who have interest in computational techniques and at the same time want to deepen their knowledge of physics. Math, physics and computer science teachers and Teacher Education students will also find a companion in this book to help them integrate computer techniques into their lessons. Even professional physicists who want to venture into Scientific Computing may appreciate this book. title : Problems in Building Physics Type de document : printed text Auteur : Marko Pinteric, Author Editeur : london : Springer Date de publication : 2024 Nombre de pages : 211p. Dimensions : 24*17 ISBN (ou autre code) : 978-3-031-47667-9 Langue : English (eng) Langue originale : English (eng) Indexation : bui Résumé : This problem book is a companion volume to the 2nd edition of the book "Building Physics: From Physi cal Principles to International Standards". The primary book offers a comprehensive presentation of the most important phenomena in building physics: heat transfer, moisture/humidity, sound/acoustics and illumination. This problem book is a companion volume to the 2nd edition of the textbook "Building Physics: From Physical Principles to International Standards". The primary book offers a comprehensive presentation of the most important phenomena in building physics: heat transfer, moisture/humidity, sound/acoustics and illumination. The problem book includes both problems and solutions. Most of the problems are as practical as possible, while remaining conceptual and avoiding overreach. Many of the solutions presented do not simply end upon determination of the correct answer, but include further explanations for a deeper understanding of the theory and/or connections to other everyday phenomena. These explanations can be of great value to lecturers who use the primary book for their courses. All solutions are cross-referenced to the formulas or explanations in the primary book. This establishes the connection between theory and practice and contributes to a more thorough understanding of the subject. The book is primarily intended for lecturers and students of all subjects related to building physics.
